Aortic Dissection is a rare cardiovascular disease

Aortic Dissection is a rare cardiovascular disease. On Rare Connect a global commuity of friends living with the rare disease Aortic Dissectionhas joined. One of these persons, Dan from United Kingdom, has written his survivor story, and it starts with “Today Is A Good Day“.

The Snow Leopard have been chosen to represent Aortic Dissection Awareness Day – September 19 – a global day to jointly create awareness for rare and lethal aortic diseases around the globe.

SQUARE DESIGN DENMARK

Doctors have 6.000 rare diseases to face in their work. Aortic Dissection is only one of these. Then there are ten thousand more known diseases.

SQUARE DESIGN NORWAY

We who are affected by aortic dissections (patients, families, friends, the loved one left behind if someone has died in this disease) – we all need to help to communicate important things, like the new knowledge that also persons with no trace of connective tissue diseases, can carry genetic mutations that causes aortic dissection.

SQUARE DESIGN SWEDEN

One way to do this is to get active on the global Aortic Dissection Awareness Day September 19. Then we can benefit of creating interest around our rare disease, by going out in many cities, to many hopitals, in many countries, all over the globe on the same day.

Snow Leopard (Panthera Unica) represents Aortic Awareness

The Snow Leopard (Panthera Unica) is a rare animal that has its natural habitat in parts of the mountain regions in Asia.

Snow leopards are carnivore and actively hunt their prey. The total wild population of the snow leopard is estimated at only 4,000 to 6.500 individuals. It can not roar like other big cats, like Lions or Tigers, and that makes the Snow Leopard a “silent killer”.

Aortic disease like AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) cause many deaths because they are usually silent until a medical emergency occurs and they either burst totally or turns into an aortic dissection. AAA is therefore often also called a “silent killer” because there are usually no obvious symptoms of the disease before it becomes acute.

Three out of four aneurysms show no symptoms at the time they are diagnosed. Some doctors say a ruptured AAA has a mortality rate close to 90%.
